I'm Martina Airoldi, a new PhD student in the lab.
About me
I come from Italy, and finished my MSc. in Biology Applied to Biomedical Research in 2018 at the Universitá degli studi di Milano. I did a 14 months internship at the Tropical and Infectious Disease Laboratory (Luigi Sacco Hospital), focusing on Next Generation Sequencing, Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology.
My project
I started my project “Beta-lactams plus Aminoglycosides a multi-factorial molecular mechanism” on the 1st of October 2019. During the next 3 years, I will assess the synergy between these two classes of antibiotics in two organisms, E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This is a very important drug combination, which have been used in the clinic for many years. We know from preliminary data that this combination works best against P. aeruginosa, and my first experiments will be validating these results. Then I will focus on the molecular mechanisms behind the antibiotic response in both organisms, which underlay the synergistic effect.
